We’re done, we’ve made it! Okay, obviously it took me a few days added to the 30 day challenge but here we are and I don’t know about you but my scalp is nice and clean! In case you have been MIA hiding your flakes from the world, let me fill you in on what’s been going on. So last month, I took a 30 Day Healthy Scalp Challenge using a new line of dandruff shampoos that Dove came out with – Dove DermaCare! They are a line of new shampoos I spotted during my stroll down the CVS shampoo aisles in search of what’s new in the hair care industry. You know I’m always looking out for y’all!
Well, I’m excited to say that I’m back and BOY do I have a review for you! One thing I truly appreciate from you (my readers and subbies) is that you look forward to my honest reviews and today is no different. Let’s recap, shall we?
If you remember, I decided to test out the Dove Clean and Fresh 2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner. I went into the challenge feeling hopeful after having read so many positive reviews about this new product. My honest review? Well – I did end up switching shampoos after about 4 washes, not going to lie. While it did effectively cleanse my scalp and thoroughly picked up residue, flakes and product buildup, I did notice that it was leaving the ends of my hair a bit dry. The first few washes, I felt like I was giving the 2-in-1 the benefit of the doubt and that maybe it’s just been the change in temperature and humidity here in New Orleans. That had to have been the reason why my hair was lacking moisture, surely! However, I found myself following up with a separate regular or deep conditioner after a few washes to replenish the moisture that I needed.
The active Pyritione Zinc in this Dove Clean and Fresh 2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner does, in fact, tackle dandruff but I don’t feel that it fully renewed my scalp and hair’s natural moisture level. If you have a really oily scalp or notice that your hair is more on the oily side, this might actually help balance the moisture levels. My hair tends to be more on the dry side so I need as much moisture as I can get. I did notice that I was scratching less, though! Scratching is something I normally do when I have excessive buildup from trying out different styling products.
So after my fourth wash, I decided to try out another Dove DermaCare product – good thing there were a few to choose from!
I made the switch to the Dove Dermacare Scalp Invigorating Mint Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. I like this shampoo MUCH better than the last for my particular curls. The smell is heavenly – a refreshing mint! It’s even got a nice tingling feeling when I massage this shampoo onto my scalp! With it just being a shampoo, I can follow with my normal conditioner and don’t have to stress after washing my hair and wondering if it’ll look like a frizz ball. I noticed that I had smoother and less frizzy hair after making the switch.
I know what you’re wondering, though: But what did it do for the flakes and itch? Essentially, it cleaned it just as well as the 2-in-1 shampoo did. I’m quite pleased with the results. It hydrated my scalp and soothed the itch. The pH balanced formula helped to hydrate and gently care for my curls. I didn’t have a problem with using this shampoo for every wash.
The bottle states that for best results, use at least twice per week. Please note that I did not wash my hair every day when using this shampoo. I used the Dove DermaCare Invigorating Mint Shampoo as I would normally wash my hair, usually after every 3 to 4 days. I loved that I didn’t have to change up my normal wash day routine when using this shampoo. I just got great results!
All in all, both shampoos that I tried got the job done as far as getting rid of flakes and itchiness at the scalp. The main reason why I decided to make the switch was because I found myself using a conditioner after using the 2-in-1, which made me feel like I was wasting more product than I needed to. If a product says 2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner, a second conditioner shouldn’t be necessary. I’ve never been a fan of 2-in-1 products, though. I have yet to find one that works as both a cleanser AND conditioner at the same time, I always seem to follow with something more moisturizing. Like I said, though, they both did their jobs at cleansing and taking care of my scalp.
So what did you think? Did you try the 30 Day Challenge to #GoFlakeFreeWithMe? What were your results like? If you’re just following along and are interested in testing out these products too, not to worry! Head on over to your local CVS and there you will be able to find Dove DermaCare products as well as other Dove Hair Care products!
