I COULD CRY! I could seriously cry right now I’m filled with so much emotion. The start of our tour kicked off in the BEAUTIFUL city of Miami and I’m so sad it’s over but it was such a wonderful event that I am still elated at the thought of those of you who came to celebrate with us for the start of Rizos On The Road Presented By Kia Motors!
I am finally home in New Orleans for a bit after a whirlwind of traveling but I’m glad to find time to share with you all of the details from our Rizos On The Road Presented By Kia Motors kick off! We couldn’t have picked a better city to have our first event. Everything about Miami screams FABULOUS! We had our event on the rooftop of the WeWork South of Fifth right at sunset and the views were absolutely beautiful!
Before anything, just wanted to give a HUGE shoutout to Kia Motors for giving Ada and I the opportunity to travel to each city on this curly road trip to meet and connect with rizadas across the U.S. and talk about being Latina and Afro-Latina in the natural hair community; truly taking the conversation from online to real life, with real life smiles, real life tears and real life hugs! Rolled through Miami in our absolute FAVORITE Kia model, the 2017 Kia Cadenza (seriously yal, this is such a sexy boss babe ride!) We absolutely loved your photos with this beauty
A total of 111 bellas with beautiful naturally curly hair attended the event and we are so grateful to each and everyone one of you! You made this event amazing and you completely made our night in ways you cannot even imagine! If I didn’t have any already, I’m sure a grey strand or two popped out of my head that Friday because my stress level was through the roof. If you didn’t already know, Denisse (aka ThugNanny, our resident photographer) called Thursday morning to inform us that her flight was cancelled due to insane weather coming out of the northeast. After scrambling around all day to find her a new flight (and succeeding well into the night), we get a call Friday morning – THE MORNING OF OUR KICKOFF – from Ona to inform us that now her flight was cancelled. DIOS MIO! Ona is our resident stylist, our celebrity curl expert who was supposed to give a live hair cut demonstration during Rizos On The Road. Poor thing was at the airport from 5am well into 4pm and unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in getting her on a flight to Florida (trust me, we tried Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, etc etc etc!) Because of this, we only had one live hair cut demo from our special guest, Curl Pop’s Isabella. AND I CAN’T GET OVER THESE PHOTOS! Denisse, La Señorita Thugnanny was there to capture all of the great moments from the event, including all of your good sides and your beautiful curls!
If you didn’t attend the Miami event, you missed out on some serious gift bags! We have been dying over the photos we’ve seen posted from curl friends who came to our kickoff showing off what they got! Major products from our sponsors! Huge thank you to As I Am, SheaMoisture, Curl Keeper, Curls, DevaCurl, Bounce Curl, Curlsmith and Bella Curls for believing in our tour and wanting to provide our guests with the best! Also, big thanks to Nice Cream Ice Cream, Reina Rebelde, and Breakup to Makeup for providing goodies to our special winners!
Our media sponsor, NaturallyCurly.com was in the building for a live Q+A Discussion with your hostesses of the evening to give a general introduction about the tour, how it started, and why the tour was so important to us and our community. Unfortunately, time got the best of us and we were unable to finish the discussion, unable to bring our special guest on stage to join us for more hair talk, and unable to take the 2039483 selfies with all of you who attended. But guess what, we are staying positive and have two great pieces of information to share. One: Devri of NaturallyCurly.com will be joining us for all stops on the tour to have these convos with you, and Two: Ada and I have decided to open a private Facebook group for those who attended Rizos On The Road Miami which will later be opened to guests who attend Rizos On The Road in other cities to continue the conversation and discussion that we didn’t have time to have in Miami! Still, the short lived Q+A with NaturallyCurly.com made my heart smile because it gave those who attended a closer look into our lives as Latina bloggers in the natural hair space!
The time we spent in Miami was amazing! Huge thanks again to Kia Motors for our ride (the 2017 Kia Cadenza) throughout our first stop. It’s no surprise why the Cadenza was loaned for the first stop on our tour. We had a boss babe mentality about the start of the tour and it was only right to drive a vehicle that added to our boss babe mindset.
We see it as a luxury full size sedan with pretty cool safety and technology features. The interior really has a premium look and feel to it and has plenty of legroom for us tall chicas (tall with sassy tacones!) – but my absolute favorite feature of this car is the Head Up Display where it shows me driver information like the speed or navigation direction DIRECTLY ON THE WINDSHIELD! I had an OMG moment when I first noticed it and it isn’t until I’m writing this blog post that I realized I didn’t get a photo of it. Mainly though, because I was driving and I’ve heard taking photos while driving is frowned upon – lol! The panoramic moonroof added to my Miami glow as I was driving through the city and the Harman Kardon sound system had us jamming to our Rizos On The Road playlist!
Oh, Cadenza… I will always love you! All in all, we are so thankful to Kia for believing in our story: Two curly girls, latinas and afro-latinas looking to meet other women interested in naturally curly hair (tips, styling advice, hair products, cuts, and general conversation about growing up as a Latina with rizos). Todas somos bellas, por dentro y por fuera! We are all beautiful, on the inside and out, and Ada and I are here to ensure that you feel beautiful rocking your natural curls! Thank you Miami for a wonderful kickoff to Rizos On The Road presented by Kia Motors! Next stop: MY HOME TOWN, NEW ORLEANS!
