One of my favorite topics of discussion for RisasRizos is about products because let’s face it… most of us are product junkies. There are tons of hair care lines out there that promise to keep our curls healthy and beautiful. I love coming across new products that turn into my new favorites because I’m confident that when I share the news with you all, you’ll love them too! So ladies and gentlemen, say hello to some of my new faves!
I’ve been testing some of these products out and I’m actually pleasantly surprised. I was fortunate enough to test out the Curl Keeper Slip 30 Second Detangler, the Curl Keeper Leave-In Conditioner, and the Curl Keeper Gel – (yes, you heard me… gel!). I’ve been loving the results so much that I had to show you my step by step styling routine so you know exactly how these products worked on my hair! Today I am working on clean hair.
-First Day Clean Curls-
First up: Curl Keeper Slip!
This 30 Second Detangler comes in an 8oz spray bottle and makes loosening hair knots a breeze! It’s actually conditioning so it leaves my curls silky smooth. I was actually intrigued to notice that on this bottle (and the others) it’s clearly labeled what the pH balance was and while I know personally about the importance of pH balance with hair, it never occurred to me how helpful it would be to find it on the products themselves. Curl Keeper Slip has a pH balance of 3.5-4 which gives it the strength to adjust the actual pH balance of your hair making it stronger and shinier than before. I am so surprised at how powerful and fast this spray detangles my hair while being extremely light on my curls.
After washing my hair, I’d spray the Curl Keeper Slip on my wet curls and leave it in for about 30 seconds and begin detangling, starting from the bottom and working my way up. While the instructions say to use it on wet hair, I have used it to detangle my curls the morning after a late wash and I’ve gotten the same great results.
Next: Curl Keeper Leave-In Conditioner!
Y’all… this leave-in conditioner is legit! It’s so light weight that I was afraid I wasn’t using enough at first but it really does leave my curls incredible hydrated. I’ve tested it out alone as well as with the gel (which I will get to in a second) and I’ve loved the results both ways. This Curl Keeper Leave-In Conditioner softens rough and dry hair. I am extra generous to the dry patch of hair I have in the very back of my head and it’s been extremely effective in reducing frizz.
So after my curls have been detangled, I take about a dollop of the leave-in and apply it on my hair from the top of my head down to the bottom. I rake the product in my hair as evenly as possible, smoothing the leave-in down my hair strands to help flatten the cuticle. I use a little extra and gently massage the leave-in directly onto the hair that is usually prone to drying faster and then smooth it down my hair again to flatten the cuticle.
Finally: Curl Keeper Gel!
Most of you know, I’m not a big fan at all. The only gel I have probably ever sworn by has been my DIY Flaxseed Gel. While I love it, every now and then I wish I could just find a gel that gives me the same results. Curl Keeper Gel IS THAT GEL! So much like the leave-in conditioner, this gel is really light and I honestly thought right away it would be a bust and I would get no results. However, it was very easy to apply on my hair. Most gels feel stripping when I rake it in my curls but the Curl Keeper Gel glides smoothly. It has incredible hold without feeling crunchy or hard. It leaves my curls not only defined but also soft without any residue or flaking. I live here in New Orleans where there are high levels of humidity but this water based gel with glycerin keeps the frizz controlled
After applying the leave in, I took a small amount of the Curl Keeper Gel (for me small amount meant about the size of a silver dollar), rubbed it between my palms and raked it evenly on my hair. I started from roots to tips, smoothing the hair at the crown of my head to keep the flyaways down. Once evenly applied, I scrunched gently to encourage a curl pattern.
Once I have finished styling, I usually just let it air dry which can take anywhere from an hour to two hours. Sometimes I’ll work outside on my back porch to speed up the drying time. Another option is to wait until its about half way dry and take a micro fiber towel or cotton t-shirt and gently scrunch my hair to not only release any cast that was created but to also dry any areas of my hair that might still be wet. Once my curls are fully dried, I’ll scrunch a bit more to give the curls body and a bit more volume. I give a quick shake at the scalp and I’m set!
These are the results after using these Curl Keeper products. I love how defined it leaves my curls. My hair still has shine, lots of body and feels so smooth that I can’t really believe that I got all of this with products that are that light! Best of all, I could play with my hair all day long and my hands won’t feel sticky at all! I give this Curl Keeper Trio 5 stars.
