Sometimes, what we need is a little inspiration to help us in our transition to healthier hair. I know that for myself personally, seeing a variety of before and after photos really helped me stick to my “healthy hair” regimen in order to get to my goal of a head full of curly hair faster. I realized that I have some faithful subscribers that have been with me from the beginning of my YouTube life. Many subscribers started implementing some tips of mine a little over a year ago and now have a head full of healthy curls! Some new subscribers have also recently done the big chop and got rid of the damaged pieces and start new. Either way, I decided it would be awesome to share with you all some of their results!
I’m starting a new series called “Curlfriend of the Week” (well, week now because I’m hoping to get more submissions soon!) where I feature a subscriber that is on their way to their healthiest naturally curly hair. I asked my subscribers if anyone would like to share their curl story and this gorgeous gal was FIRST and so eager to share so without further a do…
The very first Curlfriend of the Week is Malvina Acevedo! Here’s what she had to say:
“I wanted a change, I wanted my curls and healthy hair back.
All my life I’ve been attending Dominican Hair Salons religiously simply because having straight hair was the only way I felt beautiful. I thought that every outfit, every occasion needed straight hair! Don’t get me wrong I would have my “curly hair” days but they only lasted a day or two. (maybe as long as it rained) But the curls weren’t curls!!! They were something else. Lol
At the end of last year I made a new year resolution to get rid of ALL my heat damaged hair and start fresh! The transition as you may know was taking time. But everyday I fell in love with how my hair felt. I did a lot of heat protective styles and applied protein treatments like never before.
However…..I didn’t have as much patience as you….. so on July 3rd 2015 I decided to big chop and say hello to my wonderful and beautiful curly hair.
I was so nervous but I’m glad to say that it felt good being liberated. Many of my family and friends supported my boldness and actually fell in love with the cut.
My hair is growing so fast and my curls and confidence have never been this great!”
Check out Malvina’s before and after! Huge difference! Now she is rocking her natural curls after her big chop and doing everything she can to keep them healthy! In case you don’t know, a big chop is cutting off all damaged pieces at once rather than trimming damaged hair a little bit at a time. Way to go, Malvina!
Want to know what she’s been doing to keep her curls in shape? She currently uses DevaCurl products for her wash and go. She likes to wash her hair with the DevaCurl No-Poo and DevaCurl One Condition. Her deep conditioner of choice: DevaCurl Heaven In Hair Intensive Moisture Treatment. For styling, Malvina goes for the DevaCurl Styling Cream, Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls and some coconut oil mixed with jojoba oil. I am loving her results, aren’t you?? A huge thank you to Malvina for sharing her curl story and inspiring transition photos with us!
